A shitajiki is a typical Japanese product. Roughly translated, it means "under the sheet", and is just that: something to put under the paper to get some additional control and to avoid making marks in the paper underneath.
This shitajiki from Kyoei has a gridded design and is available in four different colors. The grid pattern is 5 x 5 mm, and the slightly thicker lines have a space of 10 mm. One side is smooth/glossy, while the the other side has a matte finish. It's only 0.6 mm thin and both flexible and stable at the same time.
Also available in several other designs and sizes.
